Cochrane is now the home of a beautiful new recreational facility called the “Tim Horton Events Centre”. The Tim Horton Events Centre is a multi use facility. It includes an NHL size rink with seating capacity for 500 people and provides six dressing rooms. The swimming pool offers many different features including a waterslide that is 21 feet high, a lazy river, a sauna, and a hot tub. Its dimensions are 12.5m x 25m with 5 lanes. The fitness centre is 500 square feet and includes new equipment for patrons to enjoy. The community hall accommodates up to 550 people and provides a ground level entrance; a state of the art kitchen that any caterer would love. A wonderful venue for tourists to experience loads of fun all under one roof.
Come swim with the bears! That’s what the visitors can also do in Cochrane, the southern terminus of the world famous Polar Bear Express excursion train.
Cochrane is home to the Polar Bear Conservation and Education Habitat and Heritage Village. The habitat has been recognized as ecologically sound but it’s also a hugely popular attraction for animal lovers from around the globe. Perhaps the most adventurous aspect of the Habitat is the fact that visitors can wade in the same pool as the bears, separated by a specially made sheet of glass.
Cochrane also features an amazing step back in time to the early 1900’s provided by the Heritage Village. Visitors can witness a look at life in the past, complete with an enormous collection of antiques and artifact from the past century. There is a General Store, farmhouse, blacksmith shop, doctor’s office, farm implement dealership and service station. You will also find a snowmobile museum here and during the summer you will catch a glimpse of antique cars and tractors rumbling down Main Street.
The Cochrane area boasts some of the best known hunting, fishing and ATV outfitters in Canada. Canoeing and kayaking are always popular on the numerous lakes and rivers in this area.
