Polar Bear Habitat

The Polar Bear Habitat is an award-winning facility for non-releasable bears. Our goal is to provide polar bears with a comfortable environment for them to improve their health and well-being. We foster bears from facilities that can no longer house them or bears that can no longer survive on their own in the wild. Our efforts are supported by such organizations as Zoocheck and Polar Bears International.

When visiting our facility, you get a candid opportunity to observe our bears in a safe and natural way. On a self-guided tour through our five-acre, conservation facility; watch as they learn, play and interact. Daily “meet the bears” sessions, interpretive programs, and an “up close and personal” wading pool will educate, entertain and enthrall you, as these majestic animals reveal their unique personalities.

Visitors should understand that we are a “bear-centered” facility, not a zoo. This means that we do not force our bears to act, perform or be at a certain place at a given time. By judicious and varied feeding times, we encourage the bears to be visible near the Viewing Building, but there are no guarantees. We hope you will support our efforts. Heritage Village

Hop on the mini train and take a ride down memory lane when visiting our Heritage Village situated adjacent to the Polar Bear Habitat. In partnership with Horse Power Stables, the village offers wagon, horse and pony rides for the whole family. Take a ride down the picturesque Main Street where you will feel as though you’re back in Cochrane during the early 1900’s.

Also on the grounds of the Heritage Village is the all new Cochrane Classic Vintage Rider Snowmobile Museum. The Snowmobile Museum’s exhibit traces the rich journey of Cochrane’s snowmobile history for the 1950’s to present day. The Museum showcases over 35 vintage sleds and archives containing historic photographs and unique memorabilia.

At the edge of our historical village is a horse arena where we hold horse shows and competitions throughout the year that attracts participants from across Canada. Be sure to arrive 30 minutes before the feeding and meeting of the bears for the daily workshop that can help educate you about the bears and the facility itself.
